Scotia’s Summer Services
Fail to prepare, prepare to fail.
Summer is upon us and, though a time for many students to relax and unwind, for others it is a time for preparation and consolidation. Many students require extra help throughout the summer and we are here to help.
We offer a variety of services to help students over the summer months.
Many students have, by now, received their college exam results and may have failed in one or two (or more) subjects. Do not panic yet. The first thing to do is to check if compensation is allowed. This is a process whereby a student may take some marks from a better subject to help get across the line in another subject. There are usually strict criteria for availing of compensation and the criteria vary from college to college. An example might be that a student will be allowed to progress if they fail no more than two subjects by no more than 5% in each one. They may also need to have at least one mark above 70% in another module. The academic council may then allow the student to compensate their poorer subjects and pass the year.
Other colleges may allow you to carry one fail through to the next year. It would have be repeated and passed whilst continuing to study the next year’s modules.
Otherwise, all colleges have repeat exams scheduled between July and August. This is where we can help. We offer third level grinds in Maths, Engineering, Chemistry, and other subjects. Make an inquiry today to see if we can help.
We also offer a focused 5th Year Maths Revision Class. This is aimed at students who feel they are slipping behind and are in danger of dropping to Ordinary Level in 6th Year. These classes focus on Algebra and Trigonometry, usually the two biggest obstacles to attaining a comfortable standard in Higher Level Maths. There will also be discussions on the uses and opportunities in studying Higher Level Maths.
A similar class is available for students struggling to cope in Ordinary Level.
